As a young man, Daniel was among the first Jews to be deported to Babylon. A man of great faith, he held important government positions during the difficult time of captivity. Through Daniel, God showed his exiled people what the future would hold. God reminded his people that he would care for them in every situation.

On the little horn Daniel noted two eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth that spoke boastfully. What it said is later described as speaking “against the Most High” (verse 25). This description points to the human intelligence and character of this new personality, who will be described in greater detail later in the chapter.
